Dorchester Seniors Partners with Farmers Market

Dorchester Seniors, partnership with the South Carolina Department of Social Services will be issuing free coupons to income eligible individuals age 60 and older that may be used to purchase fresh SC homegrown produce from local participating farmers’ markets.

Each eligible person will receive $25 worth of coupons that may be used with participating vendors through Oct. 15. Coupons will be issued on a first-come first-served basis until the supply is exhausted. The goal of the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is to supplement the diets of low-income seniors with fresh, nutritious produce and to support South Carolina’s small farmers. Applications should be submitted in person. Proof of identity and residency in Dorchester County is required in order to receive coupons in Dorchester County. Applicants must also meet household income eligibility guidelines. Information regarding the income of all household members is required to determine eligibility.

Vouchers may not be issued without required documentation and must accompany the application.

To apply on a homebound senior’s behalf, the applicant must present:

• A written (and signed) statement from the homebound senior or Power of Attorney granting permission to apply on the senior’s behalf;

• Picture ID for applicant AND the homebound senior;

• PROOF of income (copy of check, award letter- bank statements will not be accepted) for all members of the homebound senior’s household.
