Joining is easy! Simply visit the front desk at either our Summerville or St. George location with a valid photo ID to complete your registration, or complete our membership form online!
How do I qualify for free meals?
Complimentary meals are available to individuals aged 60 and over. Eligibility is determined via referrals from the Trident Area Agency on Aging. If you do not meet the grant criteria, you may still enjoy our meals as a “Private Pay” guest for $7 per meal.
What is the difference between "Congregate" and "Home-Delivered" meals?
Congregate Meals are served at our centers in a social, group setting (Monday–Friday, 12:00 pm).
Home-Delivered Meals are brought to the doorsteps of homebound seniors who are unable to visit our centers.
Do I need a reservation for lunch?
Yes. To help our kitchen minimize waste and ensure everyone is fed, please call your preferred center by 1:00 pm at least one business day before you plan to eat or receive a delivery.
Are the fitness classes really free?
Most of our fitness offerings, including our gyms and walking clubs, are free for members. The 50+ Fit program in Summerville is a premium, instructor-led program that requires an additional $20 monthly fee.
Where can I find the monthly activity schedule?
Monthly calendars and newsletters are available for download on our location pages. We also have printed copies available at the front desk of each center.
Does DSI provide transportation?
Yes! We provide safe, accessible rides to and from our centers for Dorchester County residents. We also offer a monthly trip to Walmart for prescription pickups. Please call your local center to schedule a ride at least one business day in advance.
What is the Second Chance Program?
The Second Chance Program is a grant-funded initiative that provides emergency assistance to seniors in need. This can include help with utility bills, minor home repairs, food from our pantry, and assistance with benefit applications. Support is subject to available funding.
Can I volunteer if I’m under 50?
Absolutely! We welcome volunteers of all ages. Whether you want to deliver meals, help in the kitchen, or assist with events, we would love to have you.
Can I rent the Senior Center for a private event?
